Director of ''127 Hours'', Danny Boyle, arrives at the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, California February 26, 2011. If you haven't watched this movie in awhile, pop it back in to remind yourself what you first loved about it. It will take you back to a simpler time when a pinky held up to the corner of Dr. Evil's mouth was enough to have you rolling on the floor. Orange County is a movie that pokes fun out of today's teens desperation in getting into the right school so that they can lead the life of their choice. The movie is short and sweet, packing in the laughs with a simple plot line but well rounded characters that Shaun bounces off of like the barriers in a pinball machine. A story about the greatest Daniel Radcliffe (Celebrity) monster hunter in the world, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman).
One of the worlds greatest actors Robert De Niro has appeared in 80 movies, this hub showcases poster art from 51 of those movies. There is a point in the story where we learn that the monster is capable of doing great harm. We also have them to thank for the evolution from Shelley's misunderstood monster to the real monster that has terrorized people in movie theaters for the last a century. In Hollywood, Frankenstein (the name has come to refer to him directly) is a creature of horror.
Like Frankenstein many years ago, Splice is really about human ego and the audacity of acting like a God. In fact, this movie pays homage to that earlier masterpiece (Clive” was the name of the actor Colin Clive who played Dr Victor Frankenstein in the first movie, and Elsa” was the name of Elsa James McAvoy (Film Actor) Lanchester who played the monster with the Dairy Queen hairdo in The Bride of Frankenstein). Take any character people generally dress up as, and build it out with a supporting cast.
Her short fiction has appeared in The Paris Review and The New Yorker, where her novel Lucy was originally first book, At the Bottom of the River (1983), was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. I remember my mom giving me sponge baths, and, after I returned to school (I missed a week) my kindergarten classmates writing their names on my cast. Just letting you know that we are checking your work here at Cogerson Movie Databases....lol.
Although I enjoy the Gene Wilder directed movie when I am in the mood for a comedy, no serious version of Frankenstein interests me besides those two starring Karloff. I needed a Halloween hub Flora and I wanted to do one on a classic horror movie and you can't get much more classic than this old horror. This and it's sequel are my faves of the Universal horror series, I also have a soft spot for Son of Frankenstein and The Wolfman. I enjoyed reading the critic's reviews as well as reading about how high this movie is ranked on so many lists.
In this movie, Victor Frankenstein, with his callous attitude, his arrogance, his dogged determination to succeed at all costs, his complete disregard for the pain of others, his single minded fixation, his utter lack of compassion make him a compelling character who is the real monster. The first is the scene where the hapless Justine has entered the room where Victor has chained up his re-animated creature. Victor has performed brain surgery and we can see that the creature has a nasty scar across his forehead.
Herman Munster probably would have looked different had we not had all these Hollywood versions of Frankenstein. In the 1931 film version, the monster is played by none other than Boris Karloff (who else?). It is in this film that we first hear the scientist whose name has been changed to Henry Frankenstein with his fevered scream It's Alive!”. This is probably the first time we see Frankenstein more like the walking dead..so unlike Shelley's character. Victor Frankenstein was just crazy to be famous within his scientific community.
Just thought I would update you on my Frankenstein progress....next on my movie going schedule...a repeat viewing of H.G. Wells Things to Come. The classic Universal horror films have never been matched, and Frankenstein is one of the best of the bunch. It's been decades since I last bought a movie poster, I usually get them free inside movie magazines.
